The Algarve's classic beach restaurant is, without question, Gigi. The carabineiros are probably the finest dish on the menu but all the fish and seafood are delicious. The location is strange in the sense that you don't actually face the beach and sea, despite being right next to them, and instead are looking at the neighbouring sand dunes. That said, eating authentic Portuguese seafood in what is essentially a shack, surrounded by the great and good of the country, and many drinking excellent wine and champagne, is the quintessential way to experience Quinta do Lago, the glamorous resort where this institution is situated.
